Ronald Nasson Obituary

Nasson, Ronald Vangel, 91, of Walpole, formerly Jamaica Plain.  August 8, 1932 – January 20, 2024.  Loving and devoted husband for 66 years to Iris (Duhaime). Cherished father of Linn Galligan and her husband Edward, Lisa Sullivan and her husband Frank, Cheryl Meehan and her husband Ken, Rhonda Gropman and her husband Michael, Andrea Varkas and her husband Bill, Mark and his wife Amanda (Sanzo), Michael and his wife Kathy (Carroll), William Nasson, Michelle Miller and her husband Dave, and Denise Melvin.  Brother of Edward and his wife Andrea (Leathe).  Pre-deceased by his mother Natalie (Apostol) and father Andrew, his cherished and fun-loving grandson William “Little Billy” Varkas; his sister Irene (Regan) and her husband Denis. Funny and caring, supportive and kind “Baba” to Kristen, David, Brianna, Shannon, Ryan, Marissa, Alexa, Julia, Samantha, Heleana, Dylan, Ava Rose, Nicholas, Alec, Charlotte and Andrew. English High School, Class of 49; Proud United States Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean Conflict.  Lifelong parishioner of St. George Albanian Orthodox Cathedral, South Boston. Ron’s father Andrew and his mother Natalie immigrated from Albania in 1915, becoming U.S. citizens in 1920.   Born and raised in Jamaica Plain, the neighborhood he would proudly call home for 80 years before moving with Iris to Walpole, Ron’s outgoing ways would see him quickly making all manner of friends there and at the Dedham Men’s Club. “Baba” will forever be missed by his immediate and extended family, and his wide network of friends - - especially his fellow Marines and all of his friends from each Armed Services Branch.  The thousands of parishioners from St. George who, over the years, came to know Ron Nasson quickly learned that he was a family man of unshakable faith and devotion, strong personality, and quick wit, who would do anything for anyone, without looking for something in return - - except “See you next week.” Knowing Ron was to know his unwavering love for his family and his Country and to quicky become familiar with his gentlemanly, old-school, Christian and Patriotic ways, his generosity, his love of reading and history, and his classic, sporty manner of dress that always included a neatly pressed suit, accompanied by one of his signature variety of pocket squares. Visitation will be Thursday, January 25th at 10 AM in St. George Albanian Orthodox Cathedral, 523 East Broadway, South Boston followed by a service at 11 AM.  Interment Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. George Albanian Orthodox Cathedral, 523 East Broadway, South Boston, MA  02127.
