John Cranwell Downey, 64, of Canton, MA passed away unexpectedly on June 8, 2025. John was a lifelong resident of Canton, MA who attended Noble & Greenough School, where he was a member of the football and baseball teams and captain of the ski team. John then attended Williams College where he was also a member of the Williams College Ski Team. He subsequently obtained his Master of Business Administration from Babson College. Over the course of his professional career, John was employed with Navtec, Buckley & Scott Oil Company and Weathermark Investments. John was a lifelong member of the Hyannis Yacht Club and an active participant in offshore sailing events throughout the East Coast. His passion for skiing and offshore sailing was exceeded only by his interest in his children’s sports events and he was a constant presence at their soccer games, baseball games and hockey matches. John is predeceased by his loving parents, Charles and Jacqueline Downey of Canton and is survived by his loving children Megan and John Jr. “JJ” and his brothers Charles, Jr. of Hyannisport, MA and Christopher of Houston, Texas. John is survived by his former spouse, Caren Kulevich Downey of Marblehead, MA and his many nephews and nieces. Visiting hours will take place in the Pushard Family Funeral Home 210 Sherman Street, Canton MA Thursday June 12, 2025 from 4PM- 7PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Oscar Romero Catholic Church 600 Washington St., Canton Friday at 1030 AM. Interment will be private.
