VANGEL - HELEN, 93, died peacefully and surrounded by family on January 27, 2024. Helen was the beloved grandaunt of Courtney MacKinnon L’Italien (Eric) and Timothy MacKinnon Anton (Greta), and great-grandaunt of Rhys Ashur L’Italien, Charlie Anton, and Olivia Anton. Helen was predeceased by her brothers, Charles Vangel and Theodore Anton, and her parents, Thimi and Victoria Vangel. Helen leaves behind one sister-in-law, Antoinette Vangel of East Boston, MA. Helen was born in the West End of Boston, MA and then moved to Dorchester and later lived in Hyde Park until retirement, at which point she moved to Brooksville, FL and later Palm Beach Gardens, FL, before returning home to Massachusetts to live out the remainder of her life with family. Helen spent the majority of her professional career at the Museum of Science working in the library (28 years), and also at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, 6 years). Helen was a loving woman who bestowed light and positivity on everyone who knew her. She cared deeply for her family, friends, and Albanian Orthodox community. Helen adored her great-grandnephews and niece, and they were a constant source of amusement and conversation for her. Earlier in her life, Helen loved to travel all over the globe with friends and visited family in Albania on numerous occasions. After retirement, Helen settled down and developed a fondness for bingo and other games that allowed her to spend quality time with the people she loved. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Thursday, February 1st at the St. George Albanian Orthodox Cathedral, East Broadway, South Boston.
