Harry Gardner Obituary

Harry G. Gardner, 78, of Canton passed away peacefully at his son's home Monday, February 2nd after a courageous battle with cancer.  Harry was the beloved husband of the late Theresa "Terry" Gardner for over 50 years. Born and raised in Staten Island, NY Harry was the youngest of five children and moved to Boston after graduating from Long Island University.  He pursued a career in Boston to be close to Terry and her parents who he absolutely adored, Martin and Rosemary Delahanty.  For over 40 years Harry lived in Readville and raised his only son Michael.  For over three decades Harry was a dedicated night crew chief for Roche Bros. supermarkets where he was awarded for his dedication and a tireless work ethic.  At one point Harry went 30 plus years without taking a sick day. Through Roche Bros. Harry would enjoy trips to Ireland, Portugal and Bermuda. Even with working every hour available Harry never missed an opportunity to see any game or event his son Michael was involved in. Harry was a devout Catholic and a Eucharistic Minister for many years at St. Pius Church in Milton.  When he had the time to golf, he enjoyed playing with no one more than his best friend and father-in-law Marty, often at George Wright Golf Course in Hyde Park.  Harry really liked the simple pleasures in life like a good ball game and cooking on the grill in his backyard.  An avid New York Yankees fan he loved the back-and-forth banter with his Red Sox friends.  Harry ran in tight circles and was an ultimate wingman.  His greatest joy was any time spent with his 3 grandchildren. Aside from his son Michael "Wes" Gardner of Canton he is survived by his "favorite person" - his daughter-in-law Donna.  Harry was the loving "Gumpa" of Michael, Max and Samantha and longtime friend of Mary Pagano of Medford. Harry was predeceased by his parents James & Bertha Gardner. Harry appreciated so much the love and support from all of his Readville, Canton Town Club, Blue Hill Country Club & Millside friends.  That love and support will never be forgotten. Visiting hours from the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman St., Canton, Friday from 4-7PM.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Annes Church, 90 West Milton St., Readville, Saturday at 11AM followed by interment at Canton Corner Cemetery, Canton.  Donations in Harry's name may be made to the PKD Foundation, P.O. Box 871847, Kansas City, MO 64187.
