Dorothy H. Hufnagle of Canton died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family January 26, 2020. She was 93 years old. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, John J. Hufnagle Jr..
Born, raised and educated in Cambridge she was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Martha (Arnheiter) Henry. Dorothy was a graduate Fisher Business College and worked for the New Haven Railroad at South Station, Boston. She was a resident of Canton for 64 years. Dorothy, her husband John and family were summer residents of Rexhame Beach in Marshfield for over 50 years.
She and her husband, John enjoyed dancing, attending the symphony, travel and vacationing at the beach. Dorothy was accomplished at baking, knitting, crocheting and sewing. She was also an avid reader as well as a lifelong Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Loving mother of Patricia Rowell and her husband Jonathan of Topsfield, Mary Hufnagle Murray and her husband David of Marshfield, Janet Seaberg and her husband Robert of Abington, Martha Cummings and her husband Charles of N. Easton, and John J. Hufnagle III and his wife Maureen of Centerville. Loving sister of John Henry of Lenox, Eileen Tierney of Woburn, and sister-in-law of Mary F. Hufnagle of E. Falmouth. She is predeceased by Anna Baillio, James Henry, Marie Stafford, Joseph Henry, Margaret Pater, Robert Henry.
Loving grandmother of Kevin Rowell and his wife Jihae, Peter Rowell, Justine Murray, Courtney Murray and her fiancé Robert Magaw, Elizabeth Kuusisto and her husband Peter, Michael Seaberg and his wife Jennifer, Paul Seaberg and his wife Bethany, John J. Hufnagle IV, Sheila Hufnagle, Billy Hufnagle, and Danny Hufnagle. Proud great grandmother of Connor, Patrick, Brandon, Summer, Devan Marie, Paul, Curtis, and Colleen. She was the loving aunt to 52 nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was an active communicant of St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton and Our Lady of the Assumption in Green Harbor, Marshfield.
Dorothy leaves behind her close friends Marie Mahoney of Marshfield and Dot Pike of Canton. The family wishes to express their gratitude and love to neighbors Bernie Cunningham, Sue Cronin, and Ann Hession.
Visiting hours in the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman St., Canton on Thursday, January 30, from 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday in St. Gerard Majella Church 1860 Washington St., Canton at 10 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the Canton Senior Center 500 Pleasant St., Canton, MA 02021, or to the St. Gerard Neighbors in Need Fund 1860 Washington St., Canton, MA, 02021.
