Carmie Gladys Rideout (nee Zimmerman) has been welcomed lovingly into the arms of our Lord on October 4, 2019, at the age of 88 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

She was born in Piketon, Ohio on August 31, 1931 to Henry Zimmerman and Gladys Adkins. After spending her youth in Piketon with her brothers and sisters - Winona, Fannie, Lawrence, Frank, Gene, Ginny and Debra, she moved to Kentucky as a young adult. It was there, just before 1950, that she met her husband of the next 70 years, John Clifford Rideout Jr. Not long afterward, John went to proudly serve in the Korean War and was stationed in Germany for some time. The young couple moved to New Jersey to begin their life of love and family before eventually settling in the Boston, Massachusetts area. After raising five extraordinary children, they then retired to Norway, Maine to watch their children raise families of their own.

Nana- as Carmie was affectionately called by her grandchildren, was known for her overflowing love and benevolence. She was very protective of the family that she held dearly and loved unequivocally. She is survived by a loving husband, John, of Norway, Maine, a sister Debbie Adkins of Cape Coral, Florida, as well as three spectacular daughters- Linda Rideout of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Helen Occhipinti of Berkley, Massachusetts, and Constance Lamattina of Scarborough, Maine. She has also been blessed with many wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will join both of her sons- Daniel Rideout and John Clifford Rideout III who predeceased her in heaven to provide her family and friends love and support on their future endeavors.

Music was one of Nana's greatest passions. She could always be found by her family in the back room of her home singing joyously and she enjoyed indulging in karaoke as often as possible. Occasionally, she would treat her family by putting on a musical show, playing the guitar or the piano, despite her humble protests that she "just wasn't very good". She loved playing bingo, playing Mario on the Nintendo, and "very rarely" going to the casino. Nana was also, hands down, the best rummy player in the family. Another passion she held was for birds, and she spent years breeding exotic species and hand-raising them. Nana and Papa could be found spending their days looking out the kitchen window, watching the birds flit in and out of the trees in her yard, whilst singing songs of their own.

All of the words in the world can scarcely cover Carmie for her genuine charisma, kindness, fervor, and warmth. You could hardly ever catch her without a smile on her face. She taught her children and grandchildren how to walk, helped with homework, blessed marriages and watched more life be brought into this world. As a mother and grandmother, she was always the last to sit down at the dinner table, ensuring her loved ones filled their plates with food. She would always lend an ear to a weary voice, and give experienced advice to a troubled young mind.  She was, without fail, a strong presence in the lives of her loved ones. She was a treasure on this Earth that will never be able to be replaced. She will be missed for her laugh, her smile, and most of all, her unwavering love. Although she has passed on to be with our Lord, she leaves behind a legacy of family members who have inherited the best pieces of her.

Rest In Eternal Peace Mom/Nana - We'll forever love and miss you.
