I’m very sorry to share some sad news. Albert P. Carreiro passed away on December 8, 2025, at the age of 91.
Al Carreiro was born in Fall River, RI, on June 27, 1934. He attended B.M.C. Durfee High School and left during his junior year to join the United States Navy. After completing his service, he returned home and traveled the country working as a baker—a trade he learned at his family’s business, the Moonlight Bakery. He later purchased the bakery from his father and proudly operated it until its sale in 1975.
Al lived a long and meaningful life. He was the son of the late Jose and Herminia Carreiro, a proud U.S. Navy veteran, and a dedicated employee of Roche Bros. Supermarkets. He was the loving father of Joseph and his wife Monica, the devoted husband of the late Gerda, and the cherished grandfather of Christopher, Andrew, and Jonathan. He was also a beloved brother to Manuel Carreiro and Beatrice Mederis.
Al is survived by his son Joseph from his marriage to Elsie Mello. In December of 1993, he married Gerda Bruno and moved to Canton, MA, where they shared 37 wonderful years together until her passing on October 25, 2016.
During his years in Canton, Al worked for Roche Bros. for 23 years, primarily on the night shift as a baker. At the end of each shift, he would gather unsold rolls, breads, and pastries and deliver them to senior centers in the surrounding communities—a quiet act of kindness he continued until his retirement.
Al was also a proud member of the Needham Retired Men’s Glee Club and later the Golden Tones, sharing his love of music with assisted-living residences and nursing homes throughout the Boston area and bringing joy to seniors across the region.
Visiting hours will be held at the Pushard Family Funeral Home, 210 Sherman St., Canton, this Saturday, December 13th , from 2–5 PM, and relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Funeral services will be private.
