Det. Captain John A. “ Mike” Mowles  (Ret.)  83,

 

Of the Massachusetts State Police died Monday in Milton after a period of illness

At Seasons Hospice inpatient center.

Born in Boston John has been a resident in the Hyde Park section of Boston most of his life.

He served his country during the Korean Conflict with the United States Navy and after returning home, Mike spent his early years in law enforcement with the M.D.C. Police then transferring to continue a proud career with the Massachusetts State Police as a Detective Captain assigned to the State Fire Marshalls office retiring in 1992.

He was a member of the American Legion Fogg-Roberts Post  # 78 Hyde Park.

After retiring John never slowed down, spending his winters in Florida and as he said being an “advance scout” for the Boston Red Sox, maintaining his many hobbies and activities to keep him busy, none of which were more important than spending time with his Grandchildren an family, and the Golfing with his buddies, truly enjoyed building Doll Houses and giving them away.

Always faithful he was an active member of his church and committed to his activities with the local Council Knights of Columbus. And he always looked forward to Memorial Day to volunteer placing flags on the resting places of deceased veterans.

Mike lived an active and full life and will truly be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

The son of the late John & Margaret ( Ridge ) Mowles, brother of the late Mary Vento & Barbara O’Loughlin, and the husband of the late Joan M. ( Eagan ) Mowles.

John is survived by his sons, Stephen Mowles and his wife Lucille of Dedham, Gary Mowles and his wife Susan of Salisbury,Brian Mowles and his wife Denise of Mansfield, and known as a loving Papa – Grampa to Christian, Stephanie, Gregory, Lauren, Allison, Shannon & Fallon, and his devoted and loving partner Patricia Stewart.

The Mowles family would like to extend to all of the care givers who spent time with our Dad our deepest appreciation.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of “Mike’s” Life will be held Friday morning May 6th at the Sacred Heart Church ( Upper Church ) 169 Cummins Highway, Roslindale at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the Laughlin, Nichols & Pennacchio Funeral Home, 34 Oak Street ( Corn. Of Maple St.) Hyde Park on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Doorman Parking Interment will Military Honors will follow at Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in John’s Memory to Cass House, 12 Stellman Road, Roslindale, Ma. 02131 or to the Seasons Hospice, 597 Randolph Avenue, Milton, Ma. 02186, it is the families belief that these organizations are beyond expectation and fantastic in times of need.
