Anastasia Zervos Obituary

Anastasia Zervos of Canton, MA passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 18th, 2019 at the age of 85. She was the beloved wife of the late Michael Zervos and the daughter of the late Ioannis and Irene Giannenakis of Crete, Greece.

Anastasia is survived by her devoted son, Diamantis “Adam” Zervos and his wife Evangeline of Canton, MA. Survived by her loving daughter, Hrisi “Chryssie” Sapounakis and her husband George of Canton, MA.  Adoring grandchildren Anastasia (Zervos) Scrivanos and her husband George, Michael Zervos and his wife Meeghan and Gianna Sapounakis.

Beloved sister of the late Evangelos Giannenakis and his wife Afroditi of Naples, FL. Cherished aunt of Nicholas Giannenakis, John Giannenakis and his wife Phyllis of Naples, FL and their daughters Christina and Irene. Also, the beloved sister of Ioanna Kefala and her husband Harilaos of Athens, Greece. Cherished aunt of Argyro Kefala and daughter Ioanna, Anna Kefala-Giannakopoulos and her husband Markos of Athens, Greece and their children, Mihali and Ariadne.

Born in Astrika, Chania, in 1934 on the beautiful island of Crete and at the age of 19, Anastasia moved to Athens to attend fashion design school, where she met her husband Michael. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1971 with their two children, Diamantis and Hrisi. They lived in Canton, MA, where Anastasia as a business owner, pursued her love of fashion design and dressmaking.

Known as “Stacey” by the local community, for decades she used her incredible talent and dressmaking skills by creating and altering exquisite wedding gowns for brides on their special day. As a very visual person; Anastasia had an eye for fashion and detail, and admired the beauty in things. Her creative flair extended into her cooking with an exceptional talent in Greek pastries which included baklava, galaktoboureko and kataifi.

As a strong, warm and generous woman, Anastasia faced many adversities, including the premature loss of her beloved husband, Michael, but overcame every obstacle through her resilience and perseverance to support her family. As a widow at the age of 44, and the family matriarch, with a heroic disposition and passion, she made considerable sacrifices for the well-being of her family.

Anastasia was a loving wife, extraordinary mother, proud grandmother and friend to all, as she was loved by everyone that came into contact with her. Her children and grandchildren will carry on her legacy by honoring her strong work ethic, relentless determination and kindness towards others.  Anastasia will be greatly missed. May her memory be eternal.
